The Importance of

Not Knowing the Nature of a Pancreatic Cyst may soon become "a Thing of the Past"

Optical Biopsy with Cellvizio enables doctors to examine tissue at the microscopic level during an endoscopic examination facilitating traditional tissue sampling and even potentially reducing the need for a separate and time consuming pathological evaluation.1-6 a

When physicians examine pancreatic cysts using Cellvizio Optical Biopsy, he or she is provided with real-time images that can help with tissue characterization at the time b  of the endoscopic examination. They can look directly at the cyst wall, rather than rely on information contained in the cyst fluid. Using this optical imaging technology, trained physicians may be able to make faster evaluations which have the potential to speed treatment for situations where pancreatic cancer is detected.6 c

Evaluating Pancreatic Cysts

Because Cellvizio Optical Biopsy enables the visualization of the cyst wall at the cellular level while an endoscopic examination is taking place, it provides information that assists the physicians.1-6 The System’s ability to do this is dependent upon the amount of tissue inspected and the physician’s ability to correctly interpret the images obtained.a-c

The benefits of this technology may include:

  • immediate tissue and cell characterization results1-6
  • real-time decision making for your physician1-6
  • improved therapeutic options for patients1-6
  • improved confidence in recommending surveillance when a cyst does not look cancerous6
  • faster intervention to allow treatment2-3
  • the possibility of avoiding unncessary repeat procedures or surgical intervention6

How Cellvizio Works

Cellvizio performs microscopic imaging (Optical Biopsy) of pancreatic cysts during an endoscopy and through a needle, to determine the presence of various conditions such as cancer.

The procedure combines advanced imaging technology, endoscopy and ergonomics for ease of use and patient comfort.  Using laser imaging technology, the images created by Cellvizio are produced by optically penetrating thin layers of tissue.  There is no removal of tissue samples for a separate evaluation. These images provide physicians with information which can assist in making a diagnosis during the endoscopy. a-c

See if Cellvizio is Right for You

If you are faced with the need to confirm a diagnosis of pancreatic cysts and the potential for pancreatic cancer, or if you wonder whether Optical Biopsy can enhance surveillance of your condition and/or treatment, ask your physician about the procedure using Cellvizio.
